Sinus Lifts

Dr. Jon Glenn may recommend a sinus lift if you need to add more bone to your upper jaw before an implant placement procedure. Also known as a sinus augmentation, this bone grafting procedure is performed in the upper jaw, near the back teeth, to supplement your bone structure, and it is the first step in helping you regain normal oral function.

The maxillary sinuses are located above the upper jawbone on either side of your nose. When you have lost teeth in the upper jaw, there may not be enough supporting bone tissue in this region to successfully place a dental implant. The bone may deteriorate further as it resorbs, with the problem becoming more severe the longer the area is without teeth. When you receive a sinus lift, our dentist will gently lift the sinus membrane and move it up and away from the jaw. Bone grafting material is then added into the area to provide further support for your teeth and implants.

Following your sinus lift procedure, you will need to allow a healing period of four to nine months so that the grafted material can integrate with your natural bone. Dental implants may be placed after this healing period is completed.
