Antibiotic Therapy

Dr. Jon Glenn offers antibiotic therapy to help fight periodontal disease and begin the process of restoring your oral health. Antibiotic gum treatments may be used as stand-alone treatments or in combination with other periodontal treatments based on your individual needs. If our dentist and team determine that antibiotic therapy is the right option for you, we will most likely provide you with a scaling and root planing first to clear away plaque and tartar from your mouth. If your case is more severe, we may recommend a periodontal surgery first. The antibiotic medications will then be placed directly into the infected periodontal pockets of your mouth where they will work to eliminate harmful bacteria.

Antibiotics used in fighting periodontal disease usually contain doxycycline, minocycline, tetracycline, amoxicillin, macrolide or metronidazole. Common antibiotics used in gum disease treatment include ARESTIN®, PerioChip®, ATRIDOX®, Actisite® and Elyzol®. When you receive an antibiotic gum treatment, please make sure to follow all instructions provided by our dentist after leaving our office. Following the recommended post-treatment care instructions and maintaining a thorough home care routine will maximize the effectiveness of your treatment and aid in the healing process.
