Early Orthodontics

We, along with the American Association of Orthodontists®, recommend that your child receive their initial orthodontic screening by age 7. This early screening helps our dentist determine if orthodontic treatment is needed and, if so, when it should begin. The childhood and teenage years are ideal for orthodontic treatment, and when we can provide treatment early, it is often possible to detect and correct developing problems before they can become more serious, saving you time as well as money in the future.

Providing treatment in a child’s younger years is highly advantageous, as at this age, they have not yet finished growing and developing. This allows Dr. Jon Glenn to guide tooth eruption and jaw development, addressing any potential problems at the earliest possible stage and giving your child a better result for their future oral health and smile. Here are a few ways in which early orthodontic treatment can benefit your child:

  • Providing more room in their mouth for crowded and erupting teeth
  • Preserving space for teeth which have not yet come in
  • Guiding jaw growth to create facial symmetry
  • Reducing the need for tooth extraction in the future
  • Reducing treatment time of future orthodontic care

When your child receives their initial screening, our dentist will determine if they would benefit from early orthodontic treatment. If so, we will create an individualized treatment plan to meet their needs and help them achieve the best possible results for their mouth and smile.
